The uses of technology in our daily lives increases daily, from simple tasks to complex management systems, technology has made these jobs look simple and easy to do. Tech products for instance have been embraced from all over the globe. Today, many people own devices that are technology viable and rocking with every technology aspect to boost creativity. Here are some ways technology has been used today.

Bionic men, women and children

Herr a double amputee has been immersed in robotics initially driven by a personal quest to develop superior prosthetics. By analyzing human motion, studying how electronic devices interface with the nervous system, and using live muscles to activate these devices, Herr and his bio mechatronics team have created augmentations that respond to ever more subtle neural commands, with vastly improved functionality and fit. Initially prosthetics were made of metal and were very heavy for children to wear and were very expensive too. But Open Bionics, a British company founded in 2014, wanted to change all that. It manufactures reasonable prosthetic arms for children, and it partners with Disney to give the custom, robotic devices superhero themes.

Keeping people safe

The tragic fact is that more than 10 million Americans are physically abused every year by their partner according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. So far technology has not provided a real and stable solution. However, people can install Spyware Apps on their phones and other devices to follow up activities and other suspicious acts. On the other hand tech has also provided people who are fighting abusers with a new App called SmartSafe where they provide people with tips and guidance on how to stay safe online and on a phone. They also let users record photos and videos, write notes and even capture voice and audio recordings, all of which are time-stamped and securely stored in the cloud.

Vodafone Foundation announced international expansion of a unique app to support those affected by domestic violence and abuse where the victims just need to press the button to alert the police and start recording the immediate situation.

The App has helped many people in their difficult scenarios. Also in Kenya, in 2017 a group of ten girls came up with the App called i-Cut where the girls could alert the police and medical authorities by pressing the button for help against female genital mutilation which is a criminal offence and forbidden in the country. These are a few examples as to how technology is helping people in some way or the other and provide guidance when needed.

A lifeline for refugees

Refugees use technology to track the safety of their families, find relief during a disaster, or help reconnect them to their prior expertise, knowledge or passions. Refugees use technology to rebuild their lives, as well as the lives of others. Technology has made global knowledge accessible, resulting in a number of communities collaborating to develop innovations that make refugees’ lives easier. Engineers, scientists, humanitarians, educators and more are working together to come up with a range of solutions that make life more comfortable in refugee camps, help navigate the legal process of seeking asylum, gain acceptance in new communities where they are resettled, and restore broken family ties.

Disaster Response

Communication in the immediate aftermath of a disaster is key both to support those affected and to assist in the assessment of damage and the coordination of rescue and relief efforts. There are 70 trained Vodafone employees who make up the Instant Network team. These volunteers remain on standby ready to deploy in response to natural or humanitarian disasters. All volunteers who deploy to the field complete Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) to ensure they are prepared to deploy in difficult circumstances.

The Vodafone Foundation has brought the tech to the scenes of natural disasters across the US, Asia, Africa and beyond. The foundation’s Instant Network and Instant Network Mini are portable GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) networks that can bring much needed connectivity to the scene quickly and efficiently in times of crisis.

In some of the crisis areas, the connectivity may not be accessible. In places where humans cannot reach the damaged areas, identify or recover victims. That is where robots play the part and provide a helping hand to the much needed disastrous areas. For example, when In March 2011, Japan was hit by a catastrophic earthquake that triggered a terrible tsunami. Thousands were killed and billions of dollars of damage was done in one of the worst disasters of modern times.

For a few perilous weeks, though, the eyes of the world were focused on the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Its safety systems were unable to cope with the tsunami damage, and there were widespread fears of another catastrophic meltdown that could spread radiation over several countries, Because radiation is so dangerous to humans, the robots were sent to  monitor levels of radiation and attempt to begin the clean-up process.

Anti-poaching

Maintaining the integrity of the reserves and the fragile ecosystems that exist within them is therefore a primary concern, with anti-poaching operations a critical part of efforts to stem the tide of this illicit trade.

In this context, nothing can substitute a traditional well-trained, well-motivated and well-resourced team of anti-poaching scouts. However, through innovative deployment of high-tech modern technology, it can significantly increase their effectiveness. Detection equipment such as GSM-enabled camera traps and night vision equipment feed information through digital communication networks to web-based monitoring systems in 24-hour control rooms.

From here, dedicated operators are able to identify the closest available anti-poaching teams and remotely guide them, with the benefit of satellite imagery and GPS locations, towards the detected threat.

The added efficiency derived from these systems assists teams in increasing the rate of arrests of poachers, reducing wildlife losses whilst simultaneously deterring other would-be illegal hunters who recognise the increased risk of being apprehended.

Making the world more accessible for all

Sadly, in 2019 a whole lot of disabilities and chronic diseases have still not been included in the society. Here, technology has played a very important role in providing equal concern as an important matter in society.

Its given aid to lot of wounded veterans and aging populations by building Smart homes according to their physical needs. Wayfindr is an App which is helping people with loss of vision and guiding them through the maze that is the London Underground, thanks to audio and beacon technology. Likewise, live captioning and live transcription are providing aid to the people who are not able to hear and help them take part in discussions. For the past three years, the technology has made life better for those with disabilities.
