A luxury lifestyle management service called Insignia since 1996, they have been booking packages for European travellers in huge volume for ultra-wealthy clients. Recently, they have started providing services to the US too.

Business Insider spoke with the company’s US President named Richard Lewis in order to get an idea as to how they provide their services. To start with, the memberships are by invitation only and each client is not only provided with the premium card but also appointed with a personal assistant who guides them in case of any query or request.

Europeans Clients may need personal assistant’s help to make restaurant reservations or coordinating a luxury road trip complete with an accompanying Michelin-star chef and wilderness expert. On the other hand, Americans tend to believe in planning for themselves rather than someone else doing it for them.

The cultural differences are visible at the time of providing the services. “Europeans say, ‘I have a vacation in mind,’ and they will probably have, whether it’s a week or two weeks, they will probably plan something every other day,”

Lewis said of typical European clients. “They will get the important bits done [ahead of time], the to-and-from the destination. They’ll have the accommodation ready and then they’ll maybe layer in a few other experiences or restaurants.” Overall, Lewis contended, European luxury travellers tend to build in the opportunity to “live in the moment” once on vacation.

The newer US clients, on the other hand, he said, prefer to be more detailed in pre-planning. “The US clients literally want to know what they’re doing every single hour of the day from the outset,” Lewis said. “That’s totally pre-planned.”

The Telegraph’s Sally Peck wrote about American travel habits in 2018. “In Beijing, they’ll ‘do’ the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace — and all in one morning. In the afternoon, it’s the Great Wall,” Peck observed. “Americans are list-tickers; with less holiday time than Europeans, they’re a people on a mission, and they don’t want to waste time.”

Business Insider reported that Europeans do have more paid vacations than Americans that’s the reason why Americas are used to planning their vacations to minute details. The difference between their holidays can be two weeks.

According to Lewis, Americans enjoy every second moment of their vacations and make the most out it. They try to have as much fun as possible
